In his latest piece titled, Suicidal Tendencies in the West, Victor Davis Hanson - one of the few intellectuals who “gets it” regarding the threat of radical Islam, not to mention the silence pervading “mainstream” Islam - writes about how the West appears to be acquiescing in the face of Islam.
… while we in the West anxiously monitor our words and deeds for even the slightest offense against Islamic sensibilities, we receive in exchange no such consideration; indeed, our eager protestations of respect merely excite more contempt.
Bingo. How the hell do we, a civilized “enlightened” society, go toe-to-toe with a brutal repressive frothing-at-the-mouth society completely unwilling to flinch or give in any way whatsoever? When Palestinian thugs hole’d up in the church at Bethlehem, they desecrated one of Christianity’s holiest places. The whole world watched on live TV. Did we riot for a week? No. But dare suggest that a Quran is defiled, with no shred of truth, and people are killed in the name of Allah.
And we’re supposed to understand and tolerate this kind of animalistic crap? This is the devolution of humanity. I won’t do it.

The reporting of the Koran ( isn’t it fun how many versions of the spelling one sees of this word? I wonder if Muslims do the same spelling bible..) being abused (!) has been reported for years by multiple sources, this was nothing new. But yes, it could very well be that American soldiers, officers, the Red Cross, Pentagon officials, have all been lying for the last 3 years about this…

If, as you say, we are enlightened, then yes, we should be able to understand it. It does seem, however, that with the daily ritual of violence in the US, I would question your assumption that the US is enlighted. As a matter of fact, I see the “light” getting darker by the minute in America ( from my safe perch in France, where, by the way, the light is shining very bright ).
