You have to hand it Vladimir Putin, the man’s got big brass ones. The latest to come out of an increasingly assertive Russia is the news that it is claiming a large expanse of the arctic region belongs as its own. The British paper, Daily Mail reports:

Populist newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda - a cheerleader for Putin - printed a map of the North Pole showing a “new addition” to Russia, a triangle five times the size of Britain with twice as much oil as Saudi Arabia.

The image below came from the Russian paper’s page linked above. The area Russia is now claiming is outlined in the solid red line. One can see how that is a huge swath of the polar region that is off-limits to national claims. This is a huge land grab. How much backbone does the international community have?
