August 14th, 2007 · No Comments

You can’t make this stuff up. Tropical Storm Dean has formed in the Atlantic Ocean.

Howard Dean and the scream

AT 1100 AM AST...1500Z...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM DEAN WAS
LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 11.7 NORTH...LONGITUDE 39.4 WEST OR ABOUT 1030
MILES...1660 KM...WEST OF THE SOUTHERNMOST CAPE VERDE ISLANDS AND
ABOUT 1490 MILES...2400 KM...EAST OF THE LESSER ANTILLES.

DEAN IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NEAR 23 MPH...37 KM/HR...AND THIS
MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 40 MPH...65 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER
GUSTS. SOME GRADUAL STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 24
HOURS.

Brendan Loy remarks:

Hopefully “his” comment yesterday won’t come true: “I’m gonna go to Puerto Rico, and Hispaniola, and the Bahamas! And then I’m gonna go to Florida, and Alabama, and Mississippi, and Louisiana! And then my remnants are gonna recurve inland and rain on the White House! YARRRRH!!!”

More to come, though here in Texas, we should keep only one eye on Dean. There’s a tropical depression forming near the Yucatan that may be a Tropical Storm by tomorrow or Thursday and could hit South Texas. No word on runs at HEB on canned chili and bottled water…
