Boomer Sooners lose 2005 season

July 11th, 2007 · No Comments

Ouch. The NCAA handed down a smack to the University of Oklahoma, ruling that the Sooners have to forfeit their 2005 football season. Here in Austin, this counts as “Breaking News” and you can see this on the Austin American-Statesman’s homepage. Big red box screaming “Breaking News.”

The Oklahoma football program must forfeit its wins from the 2005 season and will lose two scholarships for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 school years. The penalties, announced Wednesday by the NCAA, stem from a case involving two players, including the Sooners’ starting quarterback, who were kicked off the team for being paid for work they had not performed at a Norman car dealership.

Barry Switzer was nowhere to be seen and could not be reached for comment.

My question: How will this hit them coming into this season? Texas’ season starts Sept. 1. October 6 is the Red River Shootout. It’s not that far away, so better start planning the cookouts.
