Democrats want to play soldier… and quit

Howard Dean, head of the DNC and never one to disappoint with outrageous statements on the War on Terror, said this yesterday:

Saying the “idea that we’re going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong,” Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean predicted today that the Democratic Party will come together on a proposal to withdraw National Guard and Reserve troops immediately, and all US forces within two years.

John Kerry, Senator from Massachusetts says this:

You’ve got to begin to transfer authority to the Iraqis. And there is no reason, Bob, that young American soldiers need to be going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children, you know, women, breaking sort of the customs of the–of–the historical customs, religious customs.

Memo to Senator Kerry: You seem to be projecting your Vietnam terror experiences on today’s soldiers.

These are two of the leaders of the Democratic Party and they wonder why United States servicemen and women overwhelmingly vote Republican?

Dean’s statement is not an aberration. Here are other gems from him:

“We got rid of him. I suppose that’s a good thing.” (Him is referring to Saddam.)

(Are the Iraqis were better off without Saddam?) “We don’t know that yet.”

“I think in general the ends do not justify the means.” (Dean after our military blew away Uday & Qusay Hussein in a firefight. I suppose he thought we should wait them out.)

In Dizzy Dean’s WOAI interview, he referred to a Democratic Party plan for retreating a “strategic redeployment” of our forces. He would have the Guard and reserve retreat withdraw immediately. (Pulling out that many people is a three to six month process at minimum, so these talks of immediacy are a smokescreen, considering there are already plans on the books to pull out some troops in that time frame.) Is this the big “plan” we heard from Chucky Schumer and Pelosi in the last month? The mysterious “plan” that is supposed to be unveiled in January? If so, I wonder if Dean-o just rained on the Congressional Democrats’ parade?

Somewhere, in a dark dank cave, Karl Rove is laughing hysterically.

More: From Jim Geraghty:

it seems a certain segment of the population feels that if any IED goes off, if any suicide bomber blows up a mosque, if any car bomb slaughters Iraqis in a market or if any foreigner is abducted… well then, we’re losing.

My money is on the Dem’s plan calling for the immmediate retreat a “strategic redeployment” next month. They hope to have this meme of defeat on the front pages throughout the month so the State of the Union has to be focused on it. It will be the key talking point of their rebuttal. By spring and summer, when we would have already began bringing home troops, the tone will be one of extreme gratitude for the their service. And at every turn, they will declare that while it’s good the President has finally seen fit to begin listening to them, it’s not enough. He needs to go faster. Bring more of them home. It will be said that it is time to leave Iraq to the Iraqis. By the November elections, they hope to have completely turned the whole matter around in the public mind to where the situation we will find ourselves in will have been the Democratic plan all along. And won’t we be that much better off now that the Democrats have finally, in the past 8 years, been listened to?

You Can Think It, But You Can’t Say It

“Dean’s take on Iraq makes even less sense than the scream in Iowa: Both are uninformed and unhelpful”. Rep. Jim Marshall (D-Ga.) is very harsh, but according to the Washington Post, he is not the only Democrat to fear that his leaders’ rhetorical …
