Taking most, if not all the day off from blogging. I’m starting the day with a trip to the gun range to “ring in” the 4th of July. Nothing like celebrating the Constitutional Amendment that guarantees all others. I have an AK Hunter, Norinco-made, that I need to break in. I’ll probably also burn some round through my 1911, too. Some buddies will also show up so I might get to put my hands on their toys, too.
After that it’s back to the Casa de Swanky to prepare the food. I smoked a brisket all day on the 3rd., so that’s already done. I had a discussion with a friend as to what rum would soak with Honeydew melon nicely. With cantaloupe, coconut rum is the clear winner. We weren’t sure about Honeydew, so I bought a nice one and will cut it into cubes and will try some with vanilla rum and some with coconut. I’ll let you know how that turns out.
Then it’s off to a friend’s house to enjoy the brisket and his new grill - plus whatever we cook on it. Later we’ll visit our local neighborhood fireworks stand and buy whatever we can carry. We’ve had so much rain, we could probably light them off in the grass and not have to worry…
