Killer dog gets diabetes

July 10th, 2007 · No Comments

“Killer dog!” That’s what Mrs. Swanky would cry out while laughing as the Swanky Dog would try to climb up in her lap. She’d cry out, “Killer dog!” and Reba, the Swanky Dog, would climb back down to the floor. Worked every time.
Reba’s 12 now and her age is catching up with her. Ugh. [...]

Don’t forget the dog

Hello. Give me all your bacon. And eggs. And the ends of the tomatoes when you cut them off. I can help you clean the counters. I won’t leave any food there either. The kitty left me treats in the sand earlier. They were yummy. Will you throw my donut?

Turkey minus-1 and counting

November 23rd, 2005 · 2 Comments

We’ve got most of the house clean, the food’s gathered and the pumpkin pies have already been cooked. Much of the food will be cooked this afternoon and tonight. The turky (bird flu free) we’ll cook overnight using Mom’s electric roaster. Mom, Dad and some cousins will be here in a couple of hours, along [...]

This little guy’s about 14 inches long and was laying as flat and as still as he could be on the wood floor in our bedroom, right in front of the bathroom, where Mrs. Swanky was brushing her teeth. I think he’d been hiding and when she was walking around getting ready for bed, he [...]

We closed on the sale of our old house and the purchase of the new one. The stuff’s all here, despite the moving company flaking on us, and we’re already unboxing and arranging things. I’m freakin’ tired.

You reach a point in your life where people you know begin to have relatives enter the hospital. You hear about it and you see their faces change as all the decisions are made, the schedules begin to get jumbled and their lives just get chaotic. It’s a strange thing to watch and you really [...]

We listed the Casa de Swanky this week. Everything’s been scrubbed, painted, cleaned and staged for maximum showability. Now we wait. We’ve been lucky, I think, because we’ve had four showings already and in my book, that’s great. Anyone want to buy a house in Austin, let me know.

We Give Thanks

November 24th, 2004 · No Comments

Blogging will be light for the next few days, as the Swankys are headed over the river and through the woods to enjoy Thanksgiving with some family. I wanted to share some of what I’m thankful for:
My family. Mrs. Swanky commented on how we’re coming up on our first full year as a married couple. [...]

DogBlogging Friday

Will Collier says that cats are for sissies. Until I married the Mrs. Swanky and encountered her cat, Frito, I would have agreed whole-heartedly. I have to admit now that I like Frito, when he’s not yowling at midnight for no apparent reason, and the little furball’s grown on me. It’s hard to not like [...]

For the men and women of this country’s armed forces who work everyday to keep our nation safe and free both for the present and for our children’s time.

For the men and women of this country who serve in the Guard and Reserve forces. Many of them can’t be called weekend warriors any more, after [...]

Time at the casa

Being domestic today. Trip to the grand opening of a Super Target (fulfilling our weekly Sunday morning Starbucks run in the process; they have one in the store), took the swanky dog to Petco to let her sniff her peemail while we filled up on doggie treats, pruned back the branches in the tree over [...]
