Then and now: Iraq not sticking to the script
What people on the nihilistic Left have been saying will happen in Iraq:

What is actually happening in Iraq right now:

Michael Yon’s image of men & women, Muslims and Christians, affixing a cross atop St. John’s Church in Baghdad.
Michael Yon writes, “The Iraqis asked me to convey a message of thanks to the American people. ‘Thank you, thank you,’ the people were saying. One man said, ‘Thank you for peace.’ Another man, a Muslim, said ‘All the people, all the people in Iraq, Muslim and Christian, is brother.’ The men and women were holding bells, and for the first time in memory freedom rang over the ravaged land between two rivers. (Videotape to follow.)”
Waiting for CNN, the New York Times, Reuters, Associated Press, ABC, CBS, NBC, FoxNews, et al, to pick up Yon’s coverage. If there were justice in the world anywhere, Michael Yon would have a Pulitzer by now.
The comparison was originally seen on Glenn Reynold’s site by Instapundit reader, John Ramsay. It’s an apt comparison in imagery and an appropriate contrast between political parties, political philosophies, and people with messages to spread and agendas to sell.

Which is why you should expect to see Robert Fisk get one.

Actually, the Iwo Jima flagraising is visually a closer match. The same semi-hidden faces as the vertical element goes up.

No Ernst, You are missing the point. The concept has nothing to do with vertical elements and visual matches….It has to do with the propensity of the left to twist the good news into a tragedy. It has to do with polar elements in our society. Michael Yon deserves all of our support financially (which is how he manages to do what he does.)

I wonder if Yon would want his reputation sullied with such an award?
For me, if I were in his position, I’d refuse it (on the very far off chance if) it were ever offered.

It is a wonderful anecdote. But do you think that it in any way mitigates the overall situation in Iraq? I don’t blame the left for focusing on the main story, which is that Iraq is a failed state, and possibly the most dangerous place in the world.

Hold your horses folks, does Al Gore have a Pulitzer yet?!? Perhaps “This Charming Man” thinks he should be first in line. I don’t blame you for focusing on Iraq being a failed state and the most dangerous place on Earth, it’s all you’re capable of seeing.
I’ve heard the death rate in DC is higher than in Baghdad.

If there were no bloggers, Scott Beauchamp would have a Pulitzer by now.
